Updated at 5.09pm: Hong Kong government officials on Tuesday have started a five-day visit to Hunan province in an effort to promote co-operation in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region.

The PPRD region includes nine mainland provinces south of the Yangtze river and Hong Kong and Macau.

Deputy Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Grace Lui Kit-yuk heads the delegation comprised of representatives from several government departments and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

'The purpose of the visit is to foster closer working relations between the two governments and enhance cooperation in the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) region,' a government spokesman said.

This has been the fifth visit by the Hong Kong government to the PPRD region. The first four visits - to Hainan, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Fujian - have been made since last December.
