Actress wins court order for fingerprint test on packet of cocaine
Taiwan-born actress Cherrie Ying Choi-yee has won a court order to get a fingerprint examination of a packet of cocaine that is a key exhibit in a drug case against her.
Magistrate Abu Bakar bin Wahab made the order in Kowloon City Court after defence lawyer Rex So told him prosecutors had been unable to comply with a request for the test.
The 21-year-old starlet, whose real name is Ting Win, has pleaded not guilty to possessing a dangerous drug.
The court has heard Ying was arrested on November 6 after a packet with 0.35 gram of cocaine was thrown out of a car at a road block. She pleaded not guilty at a hearing in December.
At that hearing, the defence sought a fingerprint test and was told the bag was important evidence and would not be easily released. The defence was told to take up the matter with prosecutors.
Yesterday, Mr So told the court prosecutors had said they could not open the sealed bag containing the packet of powder without a court order.
