THE Baptist College student union will run a ''letter campaign'' next week to mobilise students to express their opinions on how the college should be upgraded to university status.
The union will later submit a proposal to college president Dr Daniel Tse Chi-wai to suggest what the school should do besides changing the title from college to university.
Dr Tse will also be invited to attend a forum, to be held on campus, to answer student questions about the issue.
The University and Polytechnic Grants Committee has given university status to the college and two polytechnics by awarding them self-accreditation status and introducing university pay scales to teaching staff.
Other issues like deciding on the academic year for the institution and the various academic heads of schools are being discussed.
Baptist College student union president Tsang Kwok-fung said it was more than just a change of name. The union was drafting a list of proposals suggesting what the college should do.
Under the proposals, the students would ask for a broader curriculum and fewer compulsory subjects such as religion and ethics, computer study and physical education.
