Austrian Rainer Ganahl will prepare and exhibit his works at the Cattle Depot Artist Village next month as part of its artist-in-residency programme. His exhibition, Basic Chinese, is an exploration of Hong Kong using video footage of his studies in Chinese language and the difficulties he faces. It is part of his experiment in 'de-centring' himself. He hopes his artistic production will not only help him to analyse himself and shape his self-identity, but also illustrate how Hong Kong's identity is constructed. Ganahl's workshop will be open from April 12 to 16 to allow the public observe him as he works. A sharing session with the artist has been scheduled for April 17. The exhibition will run from April 19 to May 11 at the Artist Commune, Cattle Depot Artist Village, 63 Ma Tau Kok Road, Kowloon. Visit www.artist-commune.com for more details.
