Richmond is confident of a top-eight finish. 'If we play well on the day we can beat any team,' says speedster
Stirling Richmond's call sign on the worldwide web is 'Stirling likesilver'. The Canadian winger has already proved that label is no ordinary boast. Just ask the Fijians, who were caught napping here last year when he scored his side's first try that put them on course for a stunning 14-12 victory in the preliminary round.
Richmond is back again. And Canada are once again drawn with Fiji. Will lightning strike twice? The Canadians hope so as they try to fulfil their expectations of reaching the cup competition.
Canada are one of eight automatic qualifiers for the fourth World Cup. This comes about by virtue of their reaching the last eight at the 2001 tournament. They want more success and will be the team to be wary of in Pool C.
'We have a good chance. If we play well on the day, we can just about beat any team,' said the quicksilver Richmond. 'We have beaten Fiji before and we have also beaten Australia a few times.
'But we cannot take any team lightly, even the other sides in the pool like Portugal, Japan and Hong Kong. We won't be underestimating any team.'
