Airport authority fuel depot gets approval

The Airport Authority can go ahead with its plan to build a fuel depot next to a steel mill in Tuen Mun after the Court of Appeal yesterday dismissed an appeal by the mill's operator. Shiu Wing Steel had appealed against an earlier court ruling supporting the director of environmental protection's approval of the project. Shiu Wing had argued that construction of the depot next to its high-temperature works would be a safety risk. It also accused the authority of failing to address the potential risks of a catastrophic tank failure, in a report submitted to government.
