One of the most amazing things about Sevens is that, even with all the intense competition, the beer guzzling and the outrageous costumes, the weekend remains a fantastic time for families. And the mini-rugby events that take place on Saturday and Sunday morning are a big part of that.
CitySeen chatted with first time mini-rugby coach and parent Stuart McCarthy (pictured with his son Sean) over breakfast yesterday. An American who has been in Hong Kong for the past 26 years, McCarthy, with co-coach Charley Peat, guided their under-eights team 'Orange Dragons' to a 2-0 victory over Sha Tin. Sean, seven, played in the game on Saturday. 'It was fun!' said Sean.
'One of the important things in rugby is teamwork and co-operation,' said McCarthy. 'These things are hard even for grownups sometimes so it's good that the kids can get taught that early on. The best part of it was just being a part of it.'
