Even the on-pitch entertainment was a huge production this year with a choir of 1,000 English Schools Foundation primary school pupils entertaining the crowd with a series of numbers right before the finals. They sang Children Are Made to Love, Chiquita Banana and Gonna Rise Up Singing. 'The children are definitely excited, nothing can contain them right now,' conductor Jacqueline Gourlay Grant said before the performance. Grant, 36, is head of music and performing arts at Kennedy School and a 15-year Hong Kong resident.

'When rehearsing here on Tuesday, the children just looked around the stadium and said, 'that isn't that big'.' Grant recalled. 'But I told them, 'if it is filled with crowds, the noise level will be incredible'.'

Grant is well-versed in these exercises, having conducted 800-member choirs at Kennedy School.
