It was a night of Turkish delights at the Exchange Square Rotunda, where the Carpets with Royalty exhibition began with a cocktail reception. Among the 19 items - comprising Turkish, Persian, Russian and Eastern carpets - was a 150-year piece originally made for Persian royalty. The event, organised by Galeria Rug and Blue Lotus International, was attended by more than 60 guests, including six consuls-general: Ali Kasif Eryalcin of Turkey; Saudi Arabia's Alaudeen Alaskary and wife Kaye; UAE's Saeed Hamad AlJunaibi; Kuwait's Ghassan Al-Zawawi; Ricardo Forrester of Argentina; and Belgium's Patrick Nijs. The feast was prepared by a Turkish chef flown in for the occasion, using ingredients fresh from Turkey. The kebab went down well, as did the Turkish wine, baklava and other desserts. Among the guests were Michael Smith, Ronen Priewer and Robyn Grow.
