A British man and a Chinese woman have been arrested in connection with an attack on an expatriate financial consultant who was chopped outside a Rugby Sevens party in So Kon Po on Monday.
The 25-year-old Briton was arrested when he surrendered to police on Wednesday night. He was still being held for questioning last night at a Western police station and had not been charged.
The Chinese woman, 41, was arrested when officers from the anti-triad unit raided her home in Sai Kung on Wednesday before the Briton surrendered. She was charged yesterday with criminal intimidation and will appear in Kowloon City Court today.
The victim, Benjamin Ford, 32, who police say may have been attacked by mistake, was recovering in hospital under police protection last night. He had 15 hours of surgery to treat his wounds and reattach two severed fingers.
Mr Ford, who had volunteered to work the bar at an Indian Recreation Club party at the end of the Rugby World Cup Sevens, was attacked at about 1am on Monday as his taxi was about to pull away after he left the private club.
A car intercepted the cab and four Chinese men in surgical masks jumped out. Without saying a word, the gang opened the taxi door and began to chop Mr Ford. He was dragged out of the cab and further assaulted. The gang sped off before police arrived.
