A man held police at bay for two hours yesterday after locking himself in his Tin Shui Wai flat and hurling television sets, a microwave oven and other appliances out of a window.
The incident began at 1pm when police received reports of things being thrown from the flat, on the 35th floor of Yuet Fu House, at Tin Yuet Estate.
When officers arrived, the 22-year-old man in the flat bolted the door and refused to let them in.
In the two-hour standoff that followed, a host of electrical appliances and other household items were thrown out the window, slowly turning a canopy on the first floor and the ground floor terrace into a dump.
The items included two television sets, a computer monitor, an electric fan, a microwave oven, chairs, knives and coins. No injuries were reported.
While hundreds of bewildered residents watched, an air cushion was set up by the emergency services on the ground in case the man decided to jump.
Some residents said it was a common occurrence for objects to be thrown out of windows at the estate.
