'I wanted my orchids to fly.' So says Kenny Chan Hing-yeung, founder of the floral company Greenfingers. In his Ivy House shop (18 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2827 8280; www.greenfingers.com.hk ), moth orchids are suspended from aluminium wires and accommodated not in pots or vases but in orbs made of moss and dried roots ($350 each; pictured). 'People tend to pot orchids for convenience but their roots are for absorbing moisture from the air,' he says. Chan, who recently came up with the 'womb-like' design, has already begun adapting it for clients wanting large, hanging orchid sculptures in their homes (prices start at $1,500). 'If you let orchids hang like this,' he says, 'they will be very happy.'
