CHINA North Industries Group (Norinco) plans to produce buses for Hong Kong in a joint effort with Kowloon Motor Bus and a British company. Norinco general office director Li Zhanmin expected sales to the territory to be up to 300 buses a year. The group was negotiating with its partners on the size of investment and Norinco would try to obtain a controlling stake, said Mr Li. Norinco set up a joint venture with the Sun Hung Kai group in May to invest in the Hong Kong and mainland property markets. Norinco had 50 per cent of the venture, Mr Li said. Mr Li said Norinco was diversifying to shift emphasis from military to civilian manufacturing. It had signed an agreement with Techtronic Industries this week to make electronic products. Each partner would take 50 per cent of the $10 million project.
