Electronica superstar Moby is one of the most innovative figures in the music scene. He has grown from an anonymous DJ in New York City's dance clubs to now being a chart topper. His eclecticism can be proved in his latest album Hotel.
Moby recorded this concept album in his bedroom studio. He is fascinated by the fact that hotels are intimate spaces where many relationships begin and end.
Hotel is Moby's first sample-free album. All the tracks are good, catchy and skilfully crafted. The album is bookended by Hotel Intro and Homeward Angel - both tranquil electronic instrumentals. In between these two ambient tracks are a hybrid of styles including a euphoric dance track (Very), a melancholic ballad (Love Should) and a chilled-out cover version of New Order's classic Temptation. Moby provides most of the vocals himself, along with guest vocalist Laura Dawn.
With Hotel, Moby proves that electronic music can have human and emotional qualities.
