The French and Spanish Section of the Division of Language Studies (LS) of the Community College at City University (CityU) will be conducting examinations for the Diploma de Espanol Lengua Extranjera (DELE, Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) of the Instituto Cervantes. It is the first local officially-approved centre to conduct the examinations. DELE is the accreditation issued and recognised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain for fluency in Spanish. The Instituto Cervantes is responsible for organising DELE examinations while the LS has been designated as the official examination centre. Three levels of DELE examinations are offered: intermediate-med/threshold level, high-intermediate level, and superior level. City U's Community College launched its Spanish studies programme in January. David Santandreu Calonge, co-ordinator of the French and Spanish Section of the LS, said: 'We are proud to become Hong Kong's only approved DELE examination centre to date.' The achievement 'stems from the dedication of our teachers and the high quality of our Spanish programmes', he said.
