Managers and teachers are most sought after jobs A survey conducted by the Beijing publicity department suggests that young people in Beijing give greatest priority to personal interest, salary and career suitability when choosing a job. The Beijing Evening News reports that two of the most desired careers among respondents are as company managers and teachers. Service sector to take more agriculture workers The mainland's service sector will absorb more employees from the agricultural sector in the future, the China Business News reports. Between 2010 and 2020 the proportion of the nation's workers engaged in agriculture is forecast to decline from 40 per cent to 30 per cent while the service sector's share of labour is set to rise from 36 per cent to 45 per cent over the same period, according to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Industry's share of the workforce is expected to remain steady at about 25 per cent. Government grants for qualified returnees The Beijing Personnel Bureau announced that qualified overseas returnees will be granted 600,000 yuan from the government. Applicants for the grants must not be older than 50 years, have Chinese nationality and an overseas PhD degree. They should have at least two years' experience in a multinational enterprise, university or research institute related to engineering, technology, teaching, research or management, and should have worked as a senior manager or associate professor. Applicants should be able to work in Beijing for at least nine months each year. Companies in the IT, life sciences and energy sectors must apply for the grants on behalf of their employees before April 22, the Beijing News reports. Good salaries for the right professionals The Hangzhou government is offering annual salaries of 60,000 yuan to 160,000 yuan for professional, qualified staff. To qualify for the positions, applicants must have, at the minimum, a bachelor's degree in law, finance, trade, urban construction, information technology or foreign languages, Xinhua reports. Attractive wages for senior IT engineers Shanghai's senior software engineers in IT companies command annual salaries of about 110,000 yuan, according to ChinaHR.com. Project managers receive up to 300,000 yuan. There is also a big demand in Shanghai for microchip engineers.
