On a 10.7 million sq ft peninsula, SkyCity will house Asia World-Expo, the new international exhibition centre, along with a nine-hole golf course, a hotel and office tower, and the SkyPier ferry terminal.

A second airport passenger terminal with its own customs and immigration facilities plus a coach station for cross-border traffic and buses to Disneyland will complete the development. This will create a multimodal transport hub boosting Hong Kong's international and mainland links.

Central to everything will be SkyPlaza, a state-of-the-art retail complex with 120 stores, 20 food outlets and four themed entertainment zones catering to more than 500,000 visitors per day.

During the main phase of construction, this area alone will require 1,600 workers. Thousands more will be hired as the project progresses.

The Airport Authority has already signed contracts worth a total of $2 billion - one with a joint venture of Chun Wo Holdings and Fujita Corporation, the other with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries.
