Cuisine: Japanese.

Ambience: Lots of dark wood, low lighting and red lampshades. There are VIP rooms, booths and a  bar near the entrance where you can see the chefs slicing sashimi.

Price: About $320 per person without drinks.

Pros: The environment is comfortable for either  a relaxing meal  or an intimate dinner. Fresh ingredients are used for teppanyaki dishes and there are a lot of choices in the drinks menu, especially the sake cocktails.

Cons: It is also, unfortunately, the cocktails - some taste like cough syrup for children (for example, the Typhoon-Shu, $65). A few dishes aren't outstanding and not worth the price.

Recommended dishes: It's a mystery what the initials 'FJ' means in Hachi FJ tempura roll ($88), but this is probably the most creative and interesting dish on the menu. Salmon, salmon roe and avocado are rolled inside rice and seaweed in the traditional method, but it has a twist: it's then dipped in batter and  fried. The result is a crisp coating surrounding a juicy, creamy interior. Silver cod teppanyaki ($80) is also delicious because the fresh fish is grilled on an iron plate so it remains moist and sweet.

What else? Top-quality beef is used in the sliced American beef roll ($250), but the spring onion and garlic inside  don't have much flavour. The dessert menu is weak: the green tea ice cream ($25) is average and the lime jelly ($40) doesn't taste much better than the ones you can get in the supermarket for $5. The restaurant is a member of the Japanese-owned Nishimura Holdings,  which also owns popular Japanese eatery Inaho Tei.
