But a union says drivers' complaints are unwarranted
A group of cross-border truck drivers has threatened to block the Lok Ma Chau checkpoint today to protest against new mainland customs forms.
But the Container Transportation Employees General Union said the drivers' complaints were invalid and called on its members to boycott any protests.
The drivers said yesterday that they were unhappy about mainland customs officials' demands that a new version of the unified road-cargo manifest form must be used from tomorrow.
A Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU) spokesman said the drivers were angry because the change would render the old forms they had bought useless. The forms cost 2.2 yuan each from mainland authorities.
The CTU said it had been contacted by about a dozen drivers regarding the matter but it was uncertain how many would take part in the protest.
