Ascending the Buddha

Details of the MTRC's $950 million cable-car line from Tung Chung to the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping in the hills of Lantau are to be revealed this week. Key to Tuesday's announcement will be the unveiling of a catchy new brand name for the cable-car line and architectural impressions of a planned theme park around the Big Buddha.

This is understood to include a hi-tech 3D cinema featuring a film telling the story of the life of Buddha from birth to enlightenment. There will also be ornate traditional Chinese tea houses and gardens. 'This is much more than just a cable car,' said one senior business partner.
