Chinese Super League newcomers Wuhan Huanghelou registered their second successive win of the season yesterday, gunning down visiting Sichuan Guancheng 3-1. The side from central Hubei province, tipped by pundits to be stuck in the bottom half of the table, have surprised everyone so far and sit in fourth place. The game initially looked likely to go the visitors' way as Sichuan forged ahead through a sweetly struck Zou Yougen free kick after 20 minutes. They held that advantage into the break. But the match took a bizarre twist 15 minutes after the restart when Sichuan defender Zhang Yaokun headed in an own-goal as a result of misunderstanding between himself and keeper Song Zhenyu. The next two goals for the hosts came in more conventional fashion as Brazilian striker Gilson fired in a low shot in the 72nd minute and set up the other for Zhang Xinxin two minutes later. In the other fourth-round game yesterday, Shanghai Shenhua SVA stole a 1-0 away victory against Liaoning despite being outplayed for most of the proceedings. Veteran striker Xie Hui struck the winner from 35 metres in the 50th minute. The remaining five games of this week's schedule will be played today with the spotlight on the clash between champions Shenzhen Jianlibao and Shandong Luneng.
