One of the 'coolest' products on display at last week's International ICT Expo in Wan Chai was the D10 Mobicool. The portable device keeps wine chilled, ideal for picnics and oenophiles on the go. You won't find freon running through the inner workings of the D10. Mobicool's products - like its other portable coolers - work on the Peltier effect. Heat is drawn away from one side of a barrier, leaving the other side cool. The device runs on rechargeable batteries, while AA batteries will last about two hours. Just how cool the D10 gets depends on the ambient temperature. During a warm day of 25 degrees Celsius, you can expect the D10 to achieve 5 degrees as its lowest setting. But while Mobicool is based in Hong Kong, you won't find its products on sale in the city. Its primary markets are Europe and Australia. International sales manager Ken Ng said: 'If we had this product in Hong Kong, in three minutes copies would be everywhere.'
