The South China Morning Post and Sunday Morning Post have carried off joint honours among Asia's best-designed newspapers in one of the industry's most prestigious competitions.
The Sunday Morning Post took the gold award for Best In Newspaper Design last night for papers with a circulation under 100,000 at the annual Asia Media Awards in Bangkok while the South China Morning Post was bronze award winner for papers with a circulation over 100,000.
'These awards are a welcome recognition of the effort we have put in to make both papers more accessible, more professional and more inviting for our readers,' said SCMP group editor-in-chief David Armstrong.
'We strive to give excellence and value for money, and a consistently high quality of design is vital alongside quality journalism and photography in providing this.
'We have also expanded the number of consumer, lifestyle and sports supplements that we publish in an attempt to offer the best possible mix of serious journalism and the expertly designed extras that our readers have come to expect. Strong sales increases in the past 12 months have demonstrated wider reader acceptance of improvements to the newspapers, and these awards serve as confirmation that we are on the right course.'
Mr Armstrong accepted the accolades at a gala dinner last night at the Bangkok Shangri-La during this year's Publish Asia 2005 conference.
