Some delegates say city suffers from its gaming reputation
With its rising international profile, Macau was hungry for feedback from delegates at the Pacific Asia Travel Association annual conference, which came to an end yesterday.
At almost every panel discussion session, local tourism professionals asked the speakers for advice on how they could improve Macau's image.
Macau suffers from its reputation as a gaming destination, some speakers said, while few tourists are aware of its unique east-meets-west cultural identity.
Kevin Dickie, marketing and communications vice-president of Discovery Networks Asia, suggested the possibility of changing Macau's image by producing carefully cast television programmes.
'Consider something like City Cabs,' he said, referring to a Discovery Channel show in which a taxi driver is chosen to introduce the host to his native city.
