Do you relish the chance to mingle with high-profile Hong Kong people, from celebrities to tycoons and senior executives? A renowned club wishes to hire a director of food and beverage (F&B) and a director of catering. One of Hong Kong's most prestigious clubs, the Aberdeen Marina Club, operates under the auspices of the Shangri-La International group 'Founded in 1984, the Aberdeen Marina Club operates six restaurant outlets and seven banquet venues, including a ballroom that can accommodate up to 400 people,' the club's general manager, Andrew Whitaker, said. 'It has a whole range of unparalleled sports and family facilities that lead the club industry in Hong Kong and even throughout Asia.' Those gunning for the role of F&B director should be prepared to lead six restaurants and outlets, including an outdoor poolside cafe in summer. 'They must create attractive F&B events and activities, develop the desired dining experience and achieve sales objectives with minimum expenditure,' Mr Whitaker said. Managing, motivating, training and driving the department's employees and ensuring that the group's food hygiene and safety system is implemented are also required. The new director of catering will create different business opportunities, achieve sales objectives and manage inter-department communications. 'He or she will provide an individualised service to members, drive the sales team to achieve sales targets and organise different themed events and activities.' Candidates for either position should note that only those who are cheerful, outgoing and people-oriented are likely to find favour at the club. Previous hotel or club experience in a similar position is required, as are a results-orientated attitude, a finger on the business pulse and a creative approach to daily duties. Because of its association with Shangri-La International, the club presents plentiful opportunities for successful candidates to move ahead in their careers.
