Where? This fashion haven is so well-hidden that even locals have a hard time finding it. If you want to get to Andreas Murkudis, you have to know where it is. Located in a dingy backyard in central Berlin, it is one of the city's top shopping addresses.
Who? The store is run by Andreas Murkudis, brother of famous German fashion designer Kostas Murkudis.
What can we expect? The store is a designer's dream. The former working hall has been transformed into a gallery-like loft with a relaxed vibe. Think minimalist to the max, with large spaces and little clutter.
Fashion finds: the shop offers a selection of cutting-edge European fashion brands and up-and-coming designers such as Kostas Murkudis, Frank Leder, Ys and Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto, Martin Margiela and many other hip local labels. Customers range from international fashionistas to the more trendy underground crowd.
Extras: there are two other stores under the Kostas Murkudis umbrella, located a few steps away from each other. One shop is devoted to design and interiors, showcasing furniture from industrial brands Mooi and E15. The other store opened late last year and carries a range of lifestyle products, including German underwear label Schiesser along with cosmetics, jewellery, accessories, books, chocolates and design souvenirs.
Andreas Murkudis is at Muenzstrasse 21, 1st and 2nd Courtyard (near S-Bahn Hackescher Markt U8 Weinmeisterstrasse), 10178 Berlin, Germany, tel: 49 30 3088 1945.
