Pledge for peaceful solution

Beijing is willing to do all it can to resolve the Taiwan question peacefully, a senior official says.

'The mainland is willing to use all our sincerity and all our efforts to achieve a peaceful solution of the Taiwan issue,' CPPCC chairman Jia Qinglin said.

'Anything that is good for stability and peace across the Taiwan Strait, anything that is conducive to unification between the mainland and Taiwan - we are willing to do,' he told Buddhist leaders at a meeting in Sanya , Hainan Island .

'This is a solemn commitment we made to our Taiwan compatriots.'
