Tung Chee-hwa has repeated his support for acting Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen for the second day running.
At a farewell dinner thrown for him at a Central hotel last night, Mr Tung urged those in attendance, including principal government officials, Exco members and legislators to help Mr Tsang to continue governing Hong Kong.
He reiterated his praise for Mr Tsang's leadership skills and competence. Mr Tung made a similar call on Monday night during another farewell dinner with local business figures and foreign diplomats.
Mr Tsang has in turn described Mr Tung as a good boss with great international vision who strove to elevate Hong Kong's status as an international city in Asia.
Exco convenor Leung Chun-ying said that Mr Tung had done a great deal to ensure a smooth transition for Hong Kong following the handover.
Earlier, Mr Tung was greeted at the door by Mr Tsang, Mr Leung and Financial Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen.
