What's up with the numbers mania? First, Fiona Sit Hoi-kei releases a song entitled 886, which sounds like 'bye bye la' in Cantonese. Then yesterday the small record company 89268 introduces the debut album by Taiwanese band Chicken Rice, entitled Lucky 7. Incidentally, 89268 is the number of a post box, while Lucky 7 simply refers to the album's seven songs.
Adding to the jumble is new girl band 8086, formed by young songwriters Selina Chong Ca-man (left) and Biggie Tang. So what's behind the code? Selina told CitySeen: 'We think using numbers is more universal. Any people of any race can read it. Originally we thought about using 8082 because those were our birth years. But we came up with 8086 because it is easier to remember.'
Selina said Biggie even dug into numerology books to find out the most auspicious numbers. Eight, of course, means riches, while six means good human relationships and zero refers to good luck.
Will they get the luck they want? Perhaps they need a name that's easier to remember first.
