landlord fined $130,000 for hiding $3m in income
Kok Joo-li was fined $130,000 yesterday after pleading guilty to failing to declare more than $3 million in rent he earned on a shop he co-owned in Kwun Tong between 1997 and 2000. He was fined $10,000 on each of three charges plus $100,000 for tax violations at Kwun Tong Court. The rental income amounted to $3,153,000 over three years and his taxes were underpaid by $401,232.
bid to sue MTR Corp fails
A High Court judge dismissed a claim by a passenger seeking $1 million in damages from the MTR Corporation for an eye injury caused by a placard waved by a Democratic Party campaigner near an exit at Wong Tai Sin station on September 10, 2000.
