34 more people fall ill with food poisoning after buffet at well known restaurant

A lawmaker has urged the government to be more aggressive with its food safety campaigns after 89 people fell ill following a buffet at a well known restaurant.

Thirty-four more people came down with food poisoning yesterday, adding to the 55 who became ill on Wednesday after eating lunch at the Golden Elephant Thai Restaurant in Times Square, Causeway Bay, on Sunday officials said.

Of the 34 new cases, 13 were Ma On Shan Lutheran Primary School students and their family members who attended a lunch organised by the school two days after end-of-term exams.

The other 21 victims were two men and 19 women, aged between six and 55.

The diners developed diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pains and vomiting after eating the buffet lunch.
