Vitamins in cosmetics
Vitamins are listed under their more complex chemical names on cosmetics labels because, according to the United States' Food and Drug Administration, listing them as vitamins gives the misleading impression that they offer a nutrient or health benefit. Vitamin C is therefore called 'sodium ascorbate' and vitamin E 'tocopherol'. The European Union has adopted a similar rule.
Vitamin antioxidants may be good for the skin, but they are also good for the products as they act as natural preservatives, preventing them from deteriorating.
