Updated at 6.20pm: Two companies were fined at the Kwun Tong Magistrates? Courts on Thursday for failing to pay wages to staff on time.
A spokesman for the government information service said the companies were Huge Million Development, trading as Art de Bamboo Restaurant, and Ongood, trading as Golden Court Restaurant. The companies were fined $19,500 and $16,000, respectively.
The employers had failed to pay wages to seven employees within seven days of the wage period, as required by the ordinance. The wages involved were about $88,300, the spokesman said.
According to the Employment Ordinance, wages must be paid within seven days of the expiry of the wage period.
The spokesman warned that employers who failed to do so, wilfully and without reasonable excuse, were liable to a $200,000 fine and a year in jail.
