Tomorrow-Sunday, 8pm
Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan
Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre
With a lavish set featuring an elegant thicket of trees and costumes in vivid colours, Bamboo Dream is considered the most visually stunning production of the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan. Choreographed by Taiwanese performing artist Lin Hwai-min, the show was well-received when staged in London last December.
According to British arts newspaper The Stage, Bamboo Dream is inspired by the symphonic sounds of Estonian composer Arvo Part and live Chinese flute performances by Hwang Sheng-kae. The programme is made up of 'seven sequences of astonishing physical skill and beauty, marking the changes of weather and passage of time'.
Each scene has its own seasonal colour, painted through spectacular lighting and costume. Lin, the founder and artistic director of Cloud Gate, mixes classical with modern and oriental aesthetics with western influences.
