Happy Valley advanced to the Xiangxue Pharmaceutical FA Cup final last night after defeating Sunray Cave 2-0 in a match which was marred by ugly scenes. With Happy Valley holding on to the two-goal advantage with two minutes left to the final whistle, the 840 fans at Mongkok Stadium were not surprised when referee Wong Chi-tang sent off four players following a mass brawl involving players from both sides. Marcio Anacleto of Happy Valley was brought down by Deng Jinghuang of Sunray Cave near the centre. Barnes Ezeh of Happy Valley immediately stepped in and appeared to knock down Deng with his elbow. Players from both sides then lost control and the game broke down into running battles on the pitch for five minutes before police, Hong Kong Football Association officials and team officials stepped in to control the situation. Referee Wong then gave marching orders to Ezeh, Deng, and Sunray's Li Rui and substitute Lu Xiaodeng before he restarted the match, which continued for another 10 seconds. Deng, who suffered a cut on his face, was later sent to hospital for further treatment. Happy Valley coach Chan Hung-ping said his players did not provoke the opposition as they were leading by two goals approaching the final minutes, while coach Peng Jingpo of Sunray Cave blamed the referee for acting against his players, although Peng did offer his apologies to the fans for his players' behaviour. An HKFA spokesman said they would study the videotape before taking the incident to the disciplinary committee for further action. The victory means Happy Valley have set up their third final against Sun Hei this season. Sun Hei narrowly defeated Kitchee 1-0 in an earlier semi-final last night thanks to a 70th-minute strike from Wong Chun-yue. Sun Hei prevailed in the two previous encounters - the League Cup and Senior Shield finals. Happy Valley's first goal came in the 13th minute. Kwok Yue-hung picked up a loose ball from 10 yards out and his pass was accurately tapped in by Lawrence Akando. Kwok came close to scoring in the 35th minute when his close-range shot went just inches wide of the target. Clodoaldo De Oliveira then added to the tally two minutes later. The Brazilian notched his 27th goal of the season when he scored from the right following a pass from Poon Yiu-cheuk. Happy Valley, who are also the league leaders, slowed down their pace in the second half and allowed the opposition to come back on a number of occasions. Chen Liming's shot in the 51st minute was narrowly blocked by the defenders. Anacleto missed a golden opportunity to increase the lead in the 84th minute. Although he was unmarked in the middle, his shot glanced off the top of the bar from close range. Valley coach Chan said they were well in control of the game until the incident and he looked forward to beating arch-rivals Sun Hei in the final.
