Nightlife

For bars, restaurants and cafes try Hankou?s Riverfront and on Wuchang?s Shuiguohu Road, try any of the many coffee shops housed in old buildings on ?European Street?

God's Music Bar

I had trouble finding this old Catholic church that has been converted into a bar. It?s hidden inside a gate on Chezhan

Road, just north of Yanjiang Dadao, but the owners have covered the front with a facade, formerly the Church of the Blessed Mother, somewhat disguising what's inside. This is a beautiful example of church architecture, dating back at lest seven decades. Unfortunately, the owner, allegedly an interior designer, has made a mess of it. Still a worthwhile place to have a drink, if only to get a look at the nave and its tri-domed ceiling. The bar is at the entrance, and the altar has been replaced by the karaoke stage. Check out the second floor choir loft. Live music later in the evening.

York Tea Room

This is much more of a bar than a tea room. The outdoor bar and seating area is a great place to watch Wuhan pass by. This friendly bar, which has an Australian bartender, is a favorite with expats working and studying in Wuhan.

Victoria Coffee House

This pleasant coffee shop is in the former Banque De L'Indo-Chine, a grand European structure built in 1917. The inside has an old world flavor. Grab a table beside the window, or if the weather

is fine enjoy the large outdoor seating area.
