Baume & Mercier offers a fresh take on old lines
Celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier is well established at the top of the watchmaking industry.
The brand's design director, Alexandre Peraldi, said the brand's enduring appeal came down to the understated sense of luxury it represented.
'We remain true to our design ideals,' he said. 'This is originality without extravagance. It is not just creativity for creativity's sake.'
This is Mr Peraldi's fourth year working with Baume & Mercier, but he spent 12 years with Cartier before that. He said working for the two brands had been very different experiences.
'Designing for Cartier is like playing classical music. After you have been at the conservatoire, it is time to play some jazz. Baume & Mercier is like jazz.'
