A CONSORTIUM headed by New World Development has pulled out of the bidding for an A$800 million (about HK$4.13 billion) casino in Sydney. The move has prompted Leighton Holdings to team up with Showboat Casinos, one of the oldest casino operators in the United States, for the project. The other parties in the bidding are Circus Circus Enterprises, of Las Vegas, and Australian financier Kerry Packer's Consolidated Press Holdings. A venture between Leighton and the Sheraton Hotel group was last month unsuccessful in its bid for the new Melbourne casino. Leighton said its bid for the Sydney casino would be submitted on November 22.
