DELTA Hotels and Resorts (Asia), part of Glynhill International, has secured the management contract for a Bangkok hotel. The 400-room Delta Grand Pacific hotel, formerly the Grand Pacific, is located between key residential and commercial areas in the Thai capital. It is a member of the Supranational Reservations System - a network with 600 hotel members and connected with 4,000 hotels globally. It is the newest hotel in the district and is rated five-star, according to Delta Hotels and Resorts (Asia) managing director and chief operating officer Bernd Loeke. While its official opening will be on November 17, it started operations in August. Mr Loeke said booming tourism meant the outlook was promising for hotels in Thailand - especially those with four stars or more. The contract indicated the importance of the Asia-Pacific region to the company, he said. ''Our goal is to expand into the major cities in the Indochina peninsula and Indonesia. ''We have firm plans for additional properties in Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia and expect this list to continue to develop,'' he said. He expected announcements on new management contracts in those countries within four to six weeks. Vietnam was the most promising country for the hotel in the region, said Mr Loeke. ''Right now, it's difficult to find a good room [in Vietnam] . . . The hotel industry right now is so underdeveloped,'' he said. Prospects were especially good for three-and four-star hotels, but the country was not yet ready for five-star ones. Delta Hotels and Resorts now manages two other hotels in the region: the Delta Golden Triangle and Royal Century Pattaya. Mr Loeke said developing tourism in the Golden Triangle - where Thailand, Burma and Laos meet - meant prospects were good for the industry there. It was popular with visitors from France and Germany and there were an increasing number from China's Yunnan province. He said the group would also seek hotel management contracts in Hong Kong and Singapore. Glynhill International is a subsidiary of the Lai Sun Group.
