Absolute gibberish? Not if you are a trendy young Thai up on the latest slang. In fact, it's English - but not as native speakers know it.
The Thai language is full of long, difficult words which are often shortened to one or two syllables. Now the hip crowd are borrowing, dissecting and generally mangling English words too.
For example, a 'bian' is a lesbian, and a 'tist' an arty type, from artist. 'Hang' is short for hangover. 'Inter' means international, referring to someone who affects a cosmopolitan pose. 'Pec' comes from 'spec', which in turn derives from 'specification', most often used to denote someone you fancy. 'Noid' is short for paranoid. And so it goes.
Thai writer Pimchanok Phungbun Na Ayudhya, who has penned an article about the slang phenomenon, writes: 'These days, whatever is inter is considered cool. And as today's lingua franca, English is considered the epitome of inter.
'The hip young things speak in Thai but their language is peppered with 'loanwords'. The words can retain their original meaning, but often are transformed into something with a lot more pizzazz which can flavour or intensify feeling.
