Some pro-Beijingers are willing to nominate Lee Wing-tat

Democratic Party chairman Lee Wing-tat says his prospects in the chief executive campaign are better than originally expected after some pro-Beijing electors promised to nominate him for the July 10 election.

Mr Lee also said yesterday that since taking the helm of the party after last year's Legislative Council election, he had become more rational and less radical.

The veteran Democrat is the only person to have declared his candidacy in the election, but he is believed to have no hope of winning against acting Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, who has yet to say he will stand.

Mr Lee, who has not been optimistic of getting the required 100 nominations, said his fortunes were on the rise.

'In the past three weeks, I increasingly felt the responses are better than originally expected. At least those Election Committee members I have contacted are very courteous and responsive,' he said.
