It is a credit to Apple Computer's innovative spirit that the industry's first widely released and best-known tablet personal computing device was the Newton, which the firm sold from 1993 to 1998. This decade, laptops that run Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC edition operating system equipped with a sensitive touch screen are Tablet PCs. One of the main proponents of this new wave of devices is Hewlett-Packard, which has just released the HP Compaq tc4200 Tablet PC. It weighs 2.08kg, measures 34.3x285x235mm and features a 12.1-inch display on antiglare protective glass. It has an Intel Pentium processor M 760, 512 megabytes of memory expandable to two gigabytes, an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 chipset and 16-bit sound, and wireless networking connectivity. The device is on special at $12,990 until month end.
