Weapon shatters into pieces as she puts up a struggle
Two would-be muggers fled while attempting to rob a woman yesterday in Tai Po when the toy gun with which they were armed shattered into pieces.
Lau Fung-yee, 40, was walking to work at a car park building in Wan Tau Tong Estate, Hiu Wan Road, at about 6.30am when the two men approached and brandished what appeared to be a firearm, police said.
When Ms Lau struggled as one of the men attempted to restrain her, she was hit over the head with the weapon, which broke.
'The woman was grabbed from behind, but she resisted and struggled with the two culprits,' said Chief Inspector Wong Tsan-tim.
'She was then hit over the head with a toy gun, which broke into pieces ... [and] the two robbers fled empty-handed towards a hillside.'
Chief Inspector Wong said police later found plastic parts of the toy gun, including the barrel and trigger.
