Last week, CitySeen spotted someone who looked suspiciously like ex Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein (pictured) in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Hotel. After some poking around, we confirmed it was indeed the movie mogul, who was here for three days discussing show business with Hong Kong's frontline movie men, such as Jackie Chan, director Tsui Hark and William Pfeiffer, CEO of Celestial Pictures.
Though the details of these meetings are unknown, Pfeiffer told CitySeen he was in town to promote his new company, tentatively named The Weinstein Company. When the Weinstein brothers still owned Miramax, Weinstein bought remake rights to two films in the Celestial library, Come Drink With Me and Avenging Eagles.
It seems local films are attracting a lot of overseas interest. Perhaps they deserve more admiration at home.
