The Luxembourg-based all-cargo airline will be the first carrier in the world to operate the new B747-400 freighter, which has the capacity to transport more cargo than any other commercial freighter yet offered to the air cargo industry.
Other customers for the new plane are Cathay Pacific Airways, Air France, Asiana, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Singapore Airlines.
Cathay has two B747-400 freighters on order, slated for delivery in 1994 and 1995.
A second B747-400 freighter is due to be delivered to Cargolux next month.
