Tony Millard's griffin Calcando had impressed in his work this season and the manner in which he won the second all-weather track barrier trial over 1,050 metres on Tuesday suggested he shouldn't have any trouble in notching a win before the season is out.
However, he was disappointing on debut last month but Calcando showed that he is back to his best when he romped home under Anthony Delpech.
He is well above average and is simply showing too much class in morning workouts.
Gold Master (second) hit the line very well.
He hasn't competed in six months but is due to run in the opening event at Sha Tin today and this workout was good enough for him to acquit himself well.
The first heat was won by Dragon Horse, who showed his usual gate speed to clock 1:03.0.
David Oughton's quality sprinter Cape Of Good Hope finished second, but the main one to note was John Size-trained Thistle King (rated 52).
