A MULTI-million-dollar mansion, built on a 3,450-square-metre block with wharves of about 1,000 square metres on the banks of the Brisbane River, is for sale in Australia.

Just a few kilometres from the city heart, the palatial property was built for former ship builder and hotelier Keith Lloyd in a 17th century French provincial style.

Called ''La Rivage'', the home, reminiscent of Gone With the Wind's ''Tara'', was built in 1984.

Over two levels, the house features a Louis XVI fireplace from the Palace of Versailles, a mahogany library, nine bedrooms, 13 bathrooms plus a guesthouse and gymnasium.

Agent Don Stallman, of Ray White Clayfield in Brisbane, said it was difficult to put a price on the property, but he was calling for expressions of interest and believed it to be worth millions.

In 1986, it was suggested the still unfinished residence had attracted a no-sale response when Alan Bond offered A$5 million (HK$25.9 million) for a Queensland base.
