When the boys at BMW throw a party, you know it's not going to be just another boring old launch. The German car company brought on actress Rosamund Kwan Chi-lam, singer Joyce Lee Lok-si and jazz guitarist Eugene Pao to help unveil the new BMW 7 series to 320 guests on Friday night. The gala dinner was held at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre, which in the past meant lots of space to party but having to wolf down instant noodles when you got home. The meal was actually good this time and when we asked who catered the event (as the table setting was by Intercontinental Hotel), we were surprised when the waiter said 'the HKECE, of course'. After the main course, a black curtain lifted and Kwan drove a $1.3 million 750LiA out to the middle of the stage. After Lee serenaded the crowd and car with Your Song, guests hurried on stage to check out the shiny new car. Pao then started his band at the other end of the hall, signalling that it was time for the wine and cigars. Yes, it was an expensive party , but CitySeen's sources tell us that about a dozen orders were placed that evening for cars of various models. So a $5 million party is really no skin off their apple.
