Winners of the 2005 International Letter-Writing Competition for People (Hong Kong Contest), organised by Hongkong Post, attended a prize presentation ceremony on May 18. A letter to Dopey, one of Snow White's dwarfs, won the first prize in the English category. The competition was held to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Danish children's writer Hans Christian Andersen. Hongkong Post also issued a series of special stamps featuring four famous characters from Andersen's tales in March. Deputy Postmaster General Joanna Choi said at the award ceremony the organisers hope that young people can experience the joy of writing letters and use it as a way of expressing their love and concern for others. The competition was divided into Chinese and English categories. Here are the winning English entries.
