Final-year students in an English degree course have vowed to make language lessons livelier.
To meet society's increasing expectations, the Hong Kong Institute of Education launched the four-year Bachelor of Education programme in 2001.
The 21 would-be teachers said they hope to introduce creative teaching methods to raise students' motivation and language standards.
Stella Kong Wai-yu, senior lecturer at the Department of English, said the institute put a lot of effort into nurturing good English teachers.
Dr Kong said the average score of the 21 students in the International English Language Testing System was 7.14, higher than the overall average of 6.51 among Hong Kong university students last year.
She attributed this to the introduction of the 'Immersion Semester'. The students went to Britain, where they studied English and experienced the British lifestyle. They stayed with a host family during the 15-week trip.
